PHILADELPHIA - On Saturday, June 19, the Association of Philadelphia Tour Guides (APT) is conducting The Great Twelve-Hour, River to River, Vine to Pine, Rain or Shine Tour of Philadelphia. This FREE guided walking tour, covering over 200 historic sites and attractions, kicks off at 8:00 am with special programs at the National Constitution Center. The tour will climax at 8:00 pm at the Waterworks on the Schuylkill River.

“This may be the longest city tour since we sent Meriwether Lewis on his trek across the continent 200 years ago,” noted Ed Mauger, APT President.

Led by expert guides from the Association, the Great Philly Tour will be in four consecutive phases:

  • 8 am Meet at the National Constitution Center for Old City portion
  • 11 am Meet at the Bourse for Society Hill portion
  • 2 pm Meet at Independence Visitors Center for 19 th c. City
  • 5 pm Meet at the Wanamaker Eagle for the Parkway portion

Participants can walk the entire tour or join any portion. They are also free to stop off at any time and rejoin the tour at a later point.

Many members of Philadelphia’s Historic Neighborhoods Consortium will offer participants in the June 19 tour short preview visits, as well as special discounts for future visits. The Consortium publishes Beyond the Bell, describing 50 sites within walking distance of the Liberty Bell.
